Prayer Card:  To Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, by Father Angelus Shaughnessy, O.F.M. Cap.  The following prayer appears on the reverse side of this prayer card:

Mary, you are the docile and faith-filled spouse of the Holy Spirit, our Second Counselor. You were privileged to mother our First Counselor, Jesus: our way, our truth and our life.

Besides, Mary, you shared the Holy Spirit's gift of counsel by your words and example. The purity of your body and the splendor of your soul kept your vision clear and your heart strong, even as you pondered questions to better understand the mysterious ways of God.

We hear you at the wedding in Cana: "Do whatever He tells you!" That was ever the attentive way you would have us respond to Jesus. Who, better than you, can give us the godly insights we need to do His will?

In all the details of your life we see you fleshing out what you said to Gabriel: "Be it done unto me according to your word." Yours was the prompt obedience of perfect faith.

You were always "Yes" to God despite the personal suffering this meant to you on calvary and the rejection of your Divine Son by your people. You are blessed forever because you believed and loved.

Come, Mother of Good Counsel, to guide the Church and direct us securely on the road to God. You alone can bring us that peace and joy of which you sang in your Magnificat and which you won on Pentecost. Lead us too into all truth.

May we live and grow and die in this heavenly prudence with Jesus ever in mind and heart. Keep showing us the way home to our Father in heaven despite our slowness to follow. You will never leave us orphans because that is what our First Counselor has promised and our Second Counselor has fulfilled. Amen.
